Gentle gum treatments (Medical Periodontics)

Unfortunately, gingivitis and periodontitis, commonly referred to as gum disease, are one of the most common oral health problems in society. In fact, some statistics have shown that over 75% of adults over the age of 30 in Quebec suffer from this silent but dangerous disease.

Gum disease is a painless, chronic infection of the gums that allows bacteria to penetrate into your bloodstream and cause havoc to your immune and circulatory systems. Many studies have shown that periodontitis is associated with a substantial increase in risk of cardiovascular disease including heart attack, embolism,  aneurism, diabetes and premature birth in pregnant women.

Fortunately, it is very easy to control, especially when detected early. At D Dental Office, we use an effective, gentle and inexpensive treatment that will help restore the health of your gums and seal the open doorway for bacteria in a matter of weeks.

The Chao Pinhole® Surgical Technique

Does the traditional gingival graft scare you? There is an alternative. Dr. Chao from Los Angeles has developed a proven and predictable procedure called "The Pinhole Surgical Technique" (PST).

Instead of taking tissue from the palate to graft it on the recessed gums, the Pinhole Surgical Technique consists of gently repositioning the gums, with specialized instruments, through a tiny hole, under local anesthesia of course. The gums are then stabilized using collagen strips placed in strategic areas.

Depending on the number of teeth involved, the procedure may take between 30 and 90 minutes. Since there are no cuts or sutures, the discomfort after treatment is minimal and sometimes non-existent. The results are aesthetic, predictable and stable, long term. We also observe the regeneration of previously lost bone tissue. With the Pinhole Surgical Technique, there is no compromise and it causes none of the pain associated with the traditional palatal graft.
