Dental Surgery
20 years experience in dental surgery at the D Dental Office in the West Island
We offer a wide range of surgical services, including surgical extractions, grafts and other oral surgeries to maintain your oral health or to restore it.
Dental extraction
No one likes losing a tooth, but there are many cases where it is better to extract a tooth than to keep it, in order to prevent problems. Here are some examples:
- Wisdom tooth extraction: impacted wisdom teeth often cause damage to gums or nearby teeth.
- Severe periodontitis: gums and the bone around the tooth are seriously damaged to the point where it must be removed.
- Severe tooth decay: cavities left untreated can severely destroy a tooth, to the point where it must be removed.
- Fractured tooth: a fracture that reaches the root of a tooth often makes it unrepairable.
- Infected tooth: a tooth with an old root canal treatment can become infected again.
- Extreme overlap: in some severe cases of crowding (crooked teeth), we sometimes choose to extract teeth, in order to create space to align them.
The team at the D Dental Office takes all necessary measures to carry out each procedure comfortably and safely. We make sure that the area around the tooth to be extracted is fully anesthetized and that you are comfortable throughout the process.
For those who are too afraid to receive the necessary care, we also offer the option of oral sedation, using a medication, which significantly helps anxious patients relax.
Bone graft
A dental bone graft is a treatment that adds volume and density to your jaw in areas where bone loss has occurred. This dental treatment may be recommended if you:
- Plan to replace a missing tooth with a dental implant (bone reconstruction)
- Have bone loss due to gum disease or periodontitis (bone regeneration)
- Are having your tooth extracted and have to replace it with an implant later (bone preservation)

Socket preservation
In the event that we plan to replace a tooth to be extracted with an implant, we recommend a bone preservation graft. It is a simple and relatively inexpensive procedure that involves placing bone, obtained from a tissue bank, into the socket (the area left empty by the extracted tooth). This prevents bone loss and preserves bone volume for the placement of the implant a few months after healing. This procedure must be done on the day of the extraction. It can prevent the need for more extensive and expensive procedures after healing.
Bone augmentation
In cases where we do not have enough bone to place an implant, we can perform a bone augmentation graft. It allows us to rebuild a good bone base to hold an implant.
Sinus lift
In cases where we want to replace a missing upper molar with an implant, the sinus often passes too close to the area. We cannot place an implant in the sinus. So we often have to lift the sinus floor in order to create enough bone height. This procedure is done simultaneously with the implant placement. It is a simple and painless procedure that allows us to avoid a lateral sinus lift, which is more involved and extensive.
